I would just like to thank you for putting this story online for people to read, I had a daughter in june of 09 and she was stillborn due to holes in her heart. I am currently 8 months pregnant with another little girl that is doing great and it makes me so happy to see success stories like this. My boyfriend's brother just had his second daughter with his girlfriend. She was 28 weeks and lil gracie was 2 lbs 7oz. She was not expected to live. She is now gaining her weight back and doing well. Thanks for your story it helps the families out there have hope for their little ones!

I just read this article and became all teared up.
My son who is almost 2 years old was just recently diagnosed with sensory processing disorder.
I wish that people in my community would be as generous and thoughtful .

Plagiocephaly, or 'flat head syndrome' is a condition which has been on the increase since the early nineties and the beginning of the incredibly important back to sleep campaign. The need for babies to sleep on their backs has resulted in plagiocephaly as a side effect which fortunately can be prevented and in extreme cases successfully corrected, most effectively as this article details with a cranial orthose (or helmet) which are becoming increasingly available.

I and my family have just recently completed a Free Dance Movement Therapy Workshop which we named as First Fruits last April 16, 2011, as part of our family's advocacy into reaching out to children with special needs. The community along with the Parish church has granted an extension of the program due to its success. My wife is a sped teacher and manages her own dance school here in manila. I have two teenage daughters who assisted her through out the 8 week workshop held once a week. With an innovative dance movement therapy program that my wife has configured at the same time using ABA, the workshop has turned out to be a huge success. We have accommodated all children with ASD, ADHD, DS, MR and CP to hearing impaired and unknown disorders into the workshop. The miracle that has occurred is this, there was never an instance or incident wherein any child regardless of their disability or disorder displayed any untoward behavior, tantrum or dropping within the eight week program. Should you wish to know more about this pioneering program that we are propagating, please email us. Thank you and we do hope to do collaborative work with you in the very near future should you find our advocacy in line with Children's Care.

I was on a the county board of Special Olympics for many years.
Here is my observation as a bystander in the community of special needs children and their parents.

"It is the parents who feel the heartbreak whenever someone throws around the "R" word. I have seen a woman's face drop in disappointment when a person in the crowd cracked a remark about " the little retards" playing with their children.

It is beyond insensitive. I would like to see someone write a modern etiquette book that addresses the "couth deficit" people exhibit for special needs children and their families. Don't they know those kids have a mommy and a daddy? Don't they know it hurts to hear their kids demeaned? Somebody please write a 21st Century Etiquette book which includes sensitivity training for the public at large. It is overdue.

I take the pledge to end the "R" word.

Now, I recommend an "Awareness campaign" to include getting the message out there to the public. Hey, they got the "go green" message out in a hurry. Why not us?

thanks for starting this post.,
Tack

That's fantastic that the Children's care Rehabilitation Medical Supply created a stroller wheelchair for Miguel. We've never needed that kind of stroller for our kids, but my mother is disabled so I know what it's like. I'll definitely be donating to help kids like Miguel!

I signed my 3 year old grandson, Zachary, up for both Speech and Music Camp last Summer. He absolutely loved it and came home from misic singing songs and dancing around all over the place. During and after speech camp his language just blossomed. He loved going and just left with the speech pathologist every day without even saying good bye. I am so thrilled with the camps and will continue to bring Zachary and his little sister, Julia, when she is old enough. Thank you to all of the Children's Care staff who set up and participate in the summer camps.

This is a great idea for families to have healthier recipes from other families. We are so creative once we start focusing on how to cook and eat healthier. I look forward to the cook book.
