Some of the many services we provide at Children’s Care include outreach services. This means we have
therapist, an audiologist as well as school psychologists who drive throughout South Dakota to help children in their home or at their school. We proudly partner with many school districts so that appropriate therapies can be provided to children. In fact, the majority of the 2,500 children we serve each year are through Outreach. Here is a great letter we recently received from a grateful grandparent:
I can not say enough about the importance to Children’s Care Hospital & School; not only the Rehab Center, but the Outreach program.
Kelsey sees PT (physical therapy) and OT (occupational therapy) services thru the Garretson School District. And the support and help that is given to Kelsey is truly needed and greatly appreciated. These kinds of things can be very overwhelming to you when you are confronted with the needs. It can be hard to know where to go, and what to do first.
The open communication between your therapists and the school team, and myself is much appreciated.
Its nice to know that people who are dedicated to their work are working with our kids. It shows that they are there for the right reasons and not just for the paychecks. It also shows that they are always and continually trying new things out with Kelsey without our having to go out and purchase items and then find out what works and does not work.
I think right now, the neatest thing happening is her therapist, Tammy, is working with incorporating things that all 9 year old kids do. I was so delighted to hear her trying out a WII for bowling. And I can not tell you how proud Kelsey was to have made cards for me with the color burst thing, and the fact she was able to do the popcorn for her class!!!! This is important stuff! The self confidence and pride that goes with the everyday things – is every bit as important as the physical therapy and indepence part of it all.
We have had Children’s Care Outreach services – since Kelsey was 8 or 9 months old. And so you know what really matters. And the dedication of the staff we deal with - that’s a great part of it.
Sincerely,
Beth Braa
