Registration is now open for the 8th annual GreenSTAR Symposium

Registration is now open for the 8th annual GreenSTAR symposium, to be held Friday, October 3rd, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The forum is for and about people with disabilities—an exchange of information, ideas, and inspiration for creating better lives for people with disabilities. It is sponsored by the South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities and LifeScape—formerly South Dakota Achieve and Children’s Care Hospital & School.

Margaret Sumption of Sioux Falls, with deep roots in advocacy, counseling, administration, and teaching, will deliver the keynote speech, “Are We There Yet? – Advocating for a Better World in Which to Live, Work, & Play.”

Breakout sessions feature Laura Barker of Michigan-based Making Connections Inc. on sensory processing, plus many other topics such as gluten-free, casein-free, and consistent carb diets; advocacy and leadership; dementia in people with disabilities, employment, borderline personality disorder, depression, ADHD/OCD/ impulse control, and music therapy. There will also be a singing bowls session with tips on stress management.

Individuals with disabilities, families of people with disabilities, professionals serving people with disabilities, and employers of people with disabilities are all encouraged to attend.

Early bird registration is $75 through August 15th, and $100 until registration closes on September 19th. There are also special group rates and a self-advocacy rate for individuals with disabilities. Limited scholarship opportunities are available. Vendor booths area available for $50 at the early-bird rate, and $100 after August 15th.
