CHILDREN'S CARE BECOMES "LIFESCAPE"

POSTED: APR 02, 2014
The change, effective April 1, 2014, comes with the affiliation of its parent organization, Sioux Falls-based Children's Care Hospital & School, with South Dakota Achieve, also based in Sioux Falls. South Dakota Achieve has been a community service provider for adults with disabilities since 1958. Services in Rapid City will not change, and LifeScape has no plans to expand into adult services in the Rapid City or Black Hills areas.

Anne Rieck McFarland, previously President/CEO of South Dakota Achieve, has been named LifeScape's Chief Executive Officer. The affiliation enables LifeScape to offer supports for the lifespan of individuals with disabilities in the Sioux Falls area.

Children's Care Hospital & School, originally "Crippled Children's Hospital & School," opened in 1952 in Sioux Falls to provide medical and educational services to children recovering from polio. The former Midwest Children's Center in Rapid City became part of Children's Care in 1985. The clinic now provides specialized therapy and psychology services to children from around the region, as well as to school districts and young children throughout Western South Dakota and far Eastern Wyoming.

LifeScape in Rapid City is led by Christine Stephenson, PT, DPT, Therapy Supervisor, and Brenda Mueller, Office Supervisor. West River governing board members are Claudia Vucurevich of Rapid City and Terri Grablander of Mission. LifeScape Foundation board members from Rapid City are Kitty Kinsman, Greg Wick, and Patrick Goetzinger.

Affiliate Rehabilitation Medical Supply, located on-site at LifeScape, provides orthotic, prosthetic, and mobility products and services to children and adults. Their name and services will not change.

The foundations of Children's Care Hospital & School and South Dakota Achieve have merged to form the LifeScape Foundation, with the mission of supporting the programs and services provided by LifeScape.

"After six months of physical therapy with Becky Rippe of Children's Care through the Birth to 3 Program, our son Jackson is performing at his age level in terms of his gross motor skills. Becky was fantastic with him, and was ALWAYS very encouraging. We feel very blessed and thankful that we chose to have him complete this program."
