Christine joined Children's Care in 2008 and volunteered to step into a management role for several months in 2011 during an interim period - while maintaining her own caseload. She is on the Seating & Positioning Team and provides specialized physical therapy to treat pediatric incontinence. Christine was chosen by Children's Care Interim CEO Dave Timpe for the honor from Champions of the Month named throughout the year. The champions are nominated by peers and selected by a rewards and recognition committee.
Born and raised in Rapid City, Stephenson (Schmid) graduated from St. Thomas More High School and attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where she earned a B.S. of Language Arts in French and English. She received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of South Dakota.
As a member of the seating and positioning team, Christine works with complex seating patients, both kids and adults. Primarily practicing in the outpatient setting, she also provides treatment for pediatric urinary incontinence and travels one day a week to Murdo, Philip, Wall, Norris, White River, and other locations along Interstate 90.
Stephenson received training in France to provide chest therapy for children with compromised respiratory function. She has used these techniques for patients with severe cerebral palsy and can also treat children with cystic fibrosis.
